Research
I have been involved in multiple clinical researchstudies inthe pathophysiologyof type 2 diabetes. My mainfocus hasbeen dissecting the underlying mechanisms of insulin resistance and beta cell dysfunction,particularly how elevated free fatty acids induce insulin resistance and thenatural history of development of type 2 diabetesas well aspharmacological interventions to preventtype 2 diabetes.Iam currentlyinvolved in the validationand mechanism of actionof manyof the more recent medications used to treat and preventType 2 diabetes.My other field of interest is metabolic effects of sexhormones,particularlylong-term effects of testosteroneand estrogen.
