About Me
Dr Richard Thomson is an Assistant Professor for the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at UT Health San Antonio. His clinical expertise includes the treatment of congenital facial differences and Cleft Lip and Palate, in addition to all aspects of Pediatric Plastic Surgery.
He received his Medical Degree from the University of Liverpool, before obtaining a Master's degree in Surgical Science and Practice from the University of Oxford. Upon completing his residency in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the Welsh Centre for Burns and Plastic Surgery, he was admitted to the Royal College of Surgeons of England as a Fellow in Plastic Surgery (FRCS Plast).
Dr Thomson has undertaken extensive training in Cleft, Craniofacial, and Pediatric Plastic Surgery, having completed three international sub-specialist fellowships.
- Pediatric Plastic Surgery at BC Children’s Hospital, Vancouver, Canada.
- Craniofacial Surgery at Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital, London,
England.
- Cleft Lip and Palate fellowship at Evelina London Children’s Hospital, England.
Prior to joining UT Heath San Antonio, he was an attending consultant at The Royal Bristol Hospital for Children and The Welsh Centre for Cleft Lip and Palate Surgery. Dr Thomson has a patient-centered approach, that prioritizes individual care and focuses on clear communication with patients and families. He enjoys working collaboratively with providers across a range of clinical disciplines to achieve the best outcomes for his patients.
