About me

About Me

Dr. Hand is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon specializing in the treatment of acute and complex musculoskeletal trauma, as well as post-traumatic deformity correction and limb reconstruction. He provides both operative and non-operative care for a wide range of injuries, with a strong clinical focus on helping patients return to their previous level of function as quickly and safely as possible following traumatic events.

A native of San Antonio, Texas, Dr. Hand earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Texas at Austin in 2009. He returned to his hometown to complete his medical degree at UT Health San Antonio in 2014, where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He remained at UT Health to complete his residency in Orthopaedic Surgery, where he was honored with the Outstanding Resident of the Year award.

Following residency, Dr. Hand was selected for fellowship training in Orthopaedic Traumatology at UT Health San Antonio. He further expanded his expertise through an international traveling fellowship in Orthopaedic Trauma Surgery at the University of Zurich in Switzerland, training under world-renowned trauma surgeon Dr. Hans-Christoph Pape in 2017.

After completing his fellowship, Dr. Hand joined the faculty at UT Health San Antonio, where he remains actively involved in clinical care, education, and research. He currently serves as the Program Director of the Orthopaedic Trauma Fellowship, as well as on numerous hospital, institutional, local and national committees. He is deeply engaged in the surgical treatment of upper and lower extremity fractures, including pelvic and acetabular injuries, and is committed to advancing trauma education through the training of residents and fellows.

Dr. Hand’s research interests include acute fracture management, post-traumatic reconstruction of the lower extremities, and innovations in surgical technique and musculoskeletal infection. Outside of medicine, he enjoys spending time with his family and working on his ranch in South Texas.
