Dr. Vinaya Kundapur is a Clinical Assistant Professor at UT Health San Antonio, specializing in oral health care for older adults and individuals with special health care needs. She earned her dental degrees in India, including a Master of Dental Surgery in Prosthodontics, and completed a Graduate Certificate in Geriatrics and Special Needs Dentistry at the University of Iowa, where she received the Samuel Johnston Graduate Student Fellowship Award for academic excellence.
Dr. Kundapur has extensive experience providing dental care to nursing home residents and medically complex patients through interprofessional, patient-centered models of care. Her clinical approach emphasizes comfort, dignity, and individualized treatment, particularly for patients with cognitive impairment, physical limitations, or dental anxiety. From 2021 to 2023, she served as a faculty assistant and program dentist for UT Health San Antonio’s Holistic Oral Health Program for the Elderly (HOPE), supporting expanded access to dental care for long-term care residents.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Kundapur is actively involved in education, research, and community outreach focused on geriatric oral health. She is nationally and internationally recognized for her leadership and service in the field and is a Fellow of the International College of Dentists, an honor that reflects her commitment to ethical practice, leadership, and service.
